BEST TIME TO VISIT TANZANIA
Wildlife viewing in Tanzania changes with rainfall patterns and seasonal wildlife movement. Temperature remains warm through most of the year, though vegetation and water levels influence where wildlife may gather. Travel conditions and wildlife visibility often depend on these seasonal shifts.
01
January - March
This period follows the short rains. Grass remains green in many areas, particularly in the southern plains of Serengeti National Park. Wildebeest gather for calving season and large herds attract predators. Wildlife viewing stays steady in many parks.
02
April - May
Long rains arrive in much of the country. Roads in remote parks may become difficult and several lodges close during this time. Vegetation grows thick, which can make wildlife harder to locate. Birdlife becomes active and landscapes appear greener.
03
June - October
Dry conditions dominate these months. Water sources shrink and wildlife concentrates near rivers and remaining waterholes. Viewing conditions improve in parks such as Tarangire National Park and Ruaha National Park. Clear skies and accessible roads also make this the busiest travel period.
04
November - December
Short rains return briefly. Wildlife disperses as water becomes available in wider areas. This period often brings fewer visitors while parks remain open. The migration herds begin moving back toward the southern plains of the Serengeti ecosystem.
