The Southern Circuit covers a wide part of southern Tanzania and draws travelers seeking quieter parks and long stretches of wilderness.
Nyerere National Park protects one of the largest wildlife areas in Africa, and is known for boat safaris along the Rufiji River and strong populations of elephants and wild dogs. Mikumi National Park features open savanna where lions, giraffes, and antelope gather. Ruaha National Park supports large predator numbers and rugged landscapes. Udzungwa Mountains National Park on the other hand, features rainforests, waterfalls, and endemic primates.
