Overview
Nyerere National Park offers a quieter safari experience compared to the northern parks, with wide river systems, open floodplains, and fewer vehicles on the tracks. This tour focuses on time in the park rather than long road transfers, using scheduled flights to reach the reserve quickly from Dar es Salaam.
Game drives are combined with river-based activities and a guided walk, allowing guests to experience wildlife from different perspectives.
The pace is steady and practical, giving enough time to explore without rushing between locations, making it suitable for travellers looking for a calm and varied safari centered on nature and observation

Day By Day
Day 1: Arrival in Dar Es Salaam
Upon arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport, you will be met by one of our representatives and transferred to your hotel in Dar es Salaam. Depending on your arrival time, the remainder of the day is free to rest after your flight or spend some quiet time adjusting to the coastal climate.
Your driver will confirm the next day’s departure details, including flight timing and luggage arrangements for the light aircraft transfer to Nyerere National Park.
Day 2: Fly to Nyerere National Park
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the domestic terminal for your scheduled flight to Nyerere National Park. The flight offers views of changing landscapes as the coastline gives way to rivers, woodland, and open bush. Upon arrival at the airstrip, your guide welcomes you and begins a game drive en route to the lodge or camp.
Wildlife sightings often begin quickly, with chances to see giraffes, elephants, antelope species, and diverse birdlife. After lunch and some time to settle in, you head out again for an afternoon game drive before returning to camp in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 3: Game Drive in Nyerere National Park
The day is dedicated to exploring different parts of the park by vehicle, allowing flexibility to follow wildlife activity depending on the season and conditions. Morning hours are often spent along river channels and open plains where animals gather to drink, while the afternoon drive explores woodland areas and quieter tracks. With fewer vehicles compared to other parks, sightings feel unhurried and natural.
A picnic lunch may be taken in the bush or back at camp depending on the plan for the day. You return to the lodge before sunset, with time to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4: Boat Safari and Guided Walking Safari
Today offers a different perspective of the park through activities not commonly available in many safari areas. In the morning, you set out on a boat safari along the Rufiji River, moving slowly past hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of water birds while observing animals that come to the riverbanks to drink. The slower pace allows close observation and photography from water level.
Later in the day, a guided walking safari takes place in a designated area accompanied by an armed ranger, focusing on tracks, plants, and smaller details often missed during game drives. The experience provides a deeper understanding of the environment before returning to camp for the evening.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5: Fly Back to Dar Es Salaam
After breakfast, you transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Dar es Salaam. The return flight once again offers aerial views of the landscapes you explored over the past days, providing a different perspective of the park’s scale.
Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred either to the international airport for onward flights or to a city hotel if additional arrangements have been made. The safari concludes here, leaving time for onward travel plans or further exploration along the coast if desired.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch
