Overview

This safari connects the islands with the northern circuit of Tanzania, offering a practical way to experience the wilderness without long overland travel. Beginning in Zanzibar, a scheduled flight brings you directly into one of Africa’s most established wildlife areas, where time is focused on game viewing.

With two full days dedicated to exploration, the program allows space to observe animal behaviour across different times of day before concluding in Arusha, making it suitable for travellers continuing their travels or connecting with international flights.

Day By Day

Day 1: Fly From Zanzibar to Serengeti

The morning begins with a transfer to Zanzibar Airport for a scheduled flight to the Serengeti. The aircraft crosses the mainland coastline and gradually reveals changing landscapes below, from cultivated land to vast stretches of open grassland.

After landing at a bush airstrip, your guide welcomes you and the safari begins immediately with a game drive en route to camp. Wildlife sightings often start early, with herds of zebra and wildebeest commonly seen moving across the plains.

The Serengeti hosts more than 1.5 million wildebeest during the annual migration, alongside thousands of gazelles and zebras. You arrive at camp later in the afternoon, settle into your accommodation, and have time to relax before dinner and overnight.

A full day is spent exploring different sections of the Serengeti, allowing flexibility depending on wildlife activity and seasonal conditions. Early morning hours often provide opportunities to see predators returning from nighttime hunts, while the afternoon reveals broader animal movement across the plains.

Lions are frequently encountered here, and the park is estimated to hold around 3,000 lions, one of the largest populations remaining in Africa. A picnic lunch is taken at a designated site, giving time to rest before continuing the game drive. Your guide adjusts routes based on sightings shared between drivers, creating a realistic and responsive safari experience rather than a fixed path. Return to camp takes place before evening for dinner and overnight.

Meal Plan:     Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Another full day in the Serengeti offers the chance to explore new areas not covered previously, which may include river systems, kopje formations, or open plains depending on wildlife movement.

The ecosystem supports more than 500 recorded bird species, alongside large mammals such as elephants, giraffes, and buffalo that move steadily across the landscape. Spending extended time in one park allows guests to notice smaller details often missed during shorter visits, such as animal interactions or changes in behaviour throughout the day.

Breaks are taken as needed for meals and rest while maintaining steady game viewing. The afternoon drive continues until late day light softens across the plains, followed by dinner and overnight at camp.

Meal Plan:     Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

An early start allows for a final morning game drive in the Serengeti, a time when animals are often active before the day warms. Following breakfast, you continue exploring while making your way toward Ngorongoro.

The drive back retraces part of the earlier route but often feels different due to changing light and new wildlife encounters along the way. The afternoon is more relaxed, allowing time to settle into your lodge near the crater rim or in the surrounding area. This slower pace provides a natural transition before the next day’s crater descent, with opportunities to enjoy the scenery and prepare for the final wildlife experience of the safari.

Meal Plan:     Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After an early breakfast, you descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive on the crater floor. The enclosed ecosystem supports a high concentration of wildlife sustained by permanent water sources and fertile grazing areas. Over the course of the morning, you explore grasslands, swamps, and acacia woodland while observing a variety of animals that remain within the crater year-round.

A picnic lunch is taken near one of the designated sites, allowing time to rest while watching nearby wildlife activity. In the early afternoon, you ascend the crater wall and begin the drive back to Arusha. Arriving in Arusha later in the day where the tour concludes.

Meal Plan:     Breakfast, Lunch
